Our Mission

SEMNFRR occupies an important leadership role at the intersection of the emerging local food economy, enduring food insecurity, prevention of food waste, and the revival of indigenous food ways.

In this environment SEMNFRR’s predominantly BIPOC network connects growers to markets, food pantries and food insecure college students and community members while also preventing food waste and the greenhouse gas emissions generated by waste.

We have created meaningful, reciprocal partnerships with a network of over one hundred food producers and have many more in need of services.

By connecting food producers to markets and to communities and community members in need, we are addressing enduring food insecurity, strengthening local economies, and preventing food waste. By managing every element of the food web economy from source to table, our food producers can plan well and be responsive to the growing demand for access to healthy food sources in the urban and rural communities of southern Minnesota.

With continued concerns about supply chain disruption and the impacts of unpredictable weather conditions, generating capacity to deliver vital food sources daily and as part of a robust response to emergencies is vital for our regional economic resilience. With our growing network, SEMNFRR’s has laid the groundwork for operating a robust food web economy.

Our mission to normalize food security by increasing access to healthy, affordable, culturally relevant food for communities in southern Minnesota and nurture cultures of food that deliver health and well-being and care for the home we share.
